It all began in 2011, in a verbal reasoning tuition class, where two 14-year-olds crossed paths for the first time. Devani remembers taking notice of Emmal when they both scored the same on a practice test. Emmal, in typical fashion, doesn’t recall much of that day – but little did we know, this was the spark of a journey we couldn’t have predicted.

We went on to attend brother and sister schools – Devani at MacRobertson Girls' School and Emmal at Melbourne High. Although at different schools, we stayed connected through weekend maths classes and mutual friend groups. But it was during the summer of 2012 that everything changed. We found ourselves messaging all day and night, sharing everything from life’s big questions to the tiniest, everyday moments. It didn’t take long for us to become inseparable. On August 1, 2013, we made it official and haven’t looked back since.

Our relationship became a patchwork of treasured memories. We spent countless hours studying side by side, enduring tuition together, attending formals, and celebrating each anniversary with joy. Even the little moments—like train rides to and from school and pooling our pocket money for coffee—are the ones we hold closest to our hearts. Those high school years shaped not just who we are but who we are together.

As time passed, so did new chapters. Devani pursued medicine, and Emmal took on the challenge of law. Life threw us plenty of curveballs throughout uni, but through it all, we grew stronger—supporting each other through exams, stress, and everything in between. Even in the busiest times, we carved out space for adventure, making new memories and strengthening our bond with every trip, every laugh, and every shared dream.

Fast forward 11 and a half years from that first tuition class, and here we are—two teenagers turned adults, building a life filled with love, trust, and adventure. The time has flown by, but looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing.
